Message from the Principal
Jeff Ochs has been with OUHSD as Principal of Prospect High School since 2002. He has recently been promoted to OUHSD Director of Alternative Education which includes Oroville Adult Education. We are glad Mr. Ochs is on board with us and have asked him a few questions.
Tell us about your family:
I've been married to my wife Kirsty for 14 years and we have a beautiful daughter, Jemma, who is going into the sixth grade this year.
Where were you born and raised?
I grew up in Vacaville and graduated from Vacaville High in 1986. Go Bulldogs!
Where did you attend college?
I have two Bachelor degrees in Psychology and English from Chico State. I also received my teaching and administrative credentials from Chico State. I've been an administrator for twelve years. Eight of those years as Principal of Prospect High School and Oroville Community Day School.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Aside from spending time with my family and working on various building projects when they come up, I ride my bike(
. Really, I ride a lot....like 4,000+ miles a year. I race occasionally throughout the year in sanctioned road races during the spring and summer as well as cyclocross during the fall and winter. I'm heavily involved with Chico Corsa Cycling Team and have spearheaded the junior bike program where we refurbish road bikes to get kids into riding and hopefully, racing.

I've always had this belief that you leave something in better shape than you found it. That's how I've gone about doing the things I do.
Tell us about your pets:
We currently have two dogs, Copper and Gunnar, who mostly ignore our cat, Dazee.
What do you like most about your work?
I like seeing the 'light bulb' go on in student's heads when they figure it out...be it a problem they've been working on or when they realize they can be successful. I love to see students reach their potential and go on to do bigger and better things.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would like to go back to England to visit my wife's family again, but this time, take a bike and see the countryside at a slower pace. I'd also like to go to France to watch Le Tour and ramble around there for a few weeks.
What is your favorite TV show? Movie?
I've been watching a lot of Discovery Channel and documentary-type shows recently.
What type of music do you enjoy most?
Well....I used to play drums in a couple punk rock/hard rock bands, so I tend to listen to the heavier stuff. However, as a musician, I'm open to listening to many different styles of music.
Describe your favorite meal:
That would be a toss-up between a burrito from a taco truck and a good cheeseburger. Then again, my wife is an awesome cook and can really put together some incredible dishes.
