Certified Nurse Assistant/CNA
Registration is on a first-come basis and must be completed in person. Online registration is not available for this class.
The CNA program combines classroom and clinical experience to prepare the student for a career in Nurse Assisting. Students successfully completing this course will be prepared to take the State Certification Exam.
Also required: current CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider card and assessment requirement. (Students must assess at a minimum of 220 before class begins.)
Class consists of on-campus lecture from 8:00am-5:00pm T,Th for the first three weeks. Remaining eight weeks of clinical/lecture at Olive Ridge Care Home from 6:30am to 4:00pm two days a week-either M,W or T,Th. Clinical preference will be honored whenever possible, however, students must be prepared to accept either clinical schedule.
Please note: At the time of registration students are given a packet with instructions including TB/Physical requirements and a Livescan form for background clearance. Both forms must be returned to the office before class begins to be considered successfully enrolled.

Oroville Adult Education in partnership with Boston Reed is offering a new and exciting career as an Electronic Health Record Specialist. By 2014 electronic health records must be in use by Healthcare Providers. Employment of EHR professionals by physicians and healthcare provider offices, EHR vendors and government organizations is expected to grow 20% by 2018. To meet this demand and fulfill the federal requirements, professionals must be trained to assist hearlthcare providers to choose, implement, train and maintain EHR systems. You will learn the essential components of the EHR and health information exchange essentials; system selection and implementation; project management and fundaments of change, including human factors.

EMT / Emergency Medical Technician
The EMT program is a 164-hour course that will prepare the student for certification as an EMT in California. Combining lecture and supervised hospital and ambulance experience, the course includes ambulance patient evaluation and treatment as well as required skills designed to prepare the student for pre-hospital emergency care. Fee covers tuition, books, uniform shirt, and mandatory background check and drug screen, which is to be completed within the first three weeks of class (information provided to students the first day of class.) Students must have current CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescue card as well as access to the internet for online quizzes. Hepatitis B and TB vaccinations are required. Check with the office for specific and detailed information for proper doumentation of the vaccines.
Additional weekend classroom dates for the Fall 2012 course are: 9/22; 10/6; 10/13; 10/14; 11/3; 11/10 plus 24 hours clinical to be scheduled.
Heartsaver First Aid w/Healthcare Provider CPR
Course includes Adult, Infant and Child CPR/Two person CPR/Bag valve mask use/AED. Course is taught using American Heart Association curriculum. Students who successfully pass this class will receive both BLS/CPR and First Aid cards good for two years.
Price includes all mandated materials.
Home Health Aide /HHA
CNAs have the opportunity to continue their education and be certified as a Home Health Aide upon completion of this course combining classroom and clinical through Butte Home Health. Required: Must be California CNA certified, possess a current Healthcare Provider CPR card, recent TB test, drug test, current Driver’s License and car insurance.
Medical Assistant/Administrative
Medical Assistant classes consist of front office (Administrative) and back office (Clinical). Administrative Medical Secretaries must have knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic or lab procedures. Duties include scheduling appointments, billing patients and maintaining medical charts, reports and correspondence using proofreading, editing and transcription skills. Students will learn the use of MOSS (Medical Office Software Simulator), basic office and bookkeeping procedures and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Available as a stand-alone certificate or part of the Medical Assistant certificate. (Accounting 1 is recommended but not required.)

Medical Assistant/Clinical
Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Back Office Clinical duties include recording vital signs and medical histories, and preparing patients for exam. Students will receive back office training in this course for an entry-level job in a medical office or clinic. Class includes lecture and supervised on-site clinical practice.
Also required for completion: Medical Terms, Medical Assistant Administrative, current CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider card, TB test, 45wpm keyboarding and assessment requirement.
Note: Students may purchase a 160 hour externship which will qualify the student to take the certification exam for CMA (Certified Medical Assistant).

Medical Billing and Coding
Trained Medical Billers are in demand in medical offices, clinics, hospitals, insurance companies and other health care settings. Course includes computer billing, insurance claim forms, hospital billing, EDI, instruction in CPT and ICD9, as well as an introduction to ICD-10, a new coding system which will be in effect by 2013. Medical Terminology is recommended prior to enrollment but may be taken concurrently.
Also required for certificate: Medical Terminology, Business Apps, 45WPM, CPR Heathcare Provider Card and assessment score of 236 before class ends.

Pharmacy Technician

Boston Reed College in partnership with OAE presents the Pharmacy Tech program. The Pharmacy Technician program will prepare you to work in a retail pharmacy and help you pass a national certification exam. Course combines 182 hours of classroom instruction with a 120 hour pharmacy externship to provide you with on-the-job experience. Over the course of six months you will gain exposure to the preparation of medications, maintaining client records, assisting with inventory control, purchasing, collecting payments, coordinating billing, and much more.
